After fifty years, New Yorkers stopped sending our waste to Staten Island. At considerable monetary cost to New Yorkers, and considerable environmental cost to those communities, in 2001 we started sending our waste to landfills and incinerators in: Pennsylvania, Virginia, Seneca Falls, New York, Ohio, South Carolina, Kentucky, and New Jersey.
